Types of Braces in Alpharetta, Georgia

Braces for Teens and Adults

Traditional metal braces are the most common orthodontic treatment available. They are the “tried and true” orthodontic treatment, and have successfully helps thousands of patients achieve a straighter, healthier and more beautiful smile. Thanks to advances in orthodontics, braces today are more comfortable and effective than ever before. Braces are made using high-grade stainless steel, and work using a system of brackets and wires to gently move your teeth into their optimal positions. You also have the option of using colored elastics on your brackets to make them more unique, colorful and interesting.

The other option in terms of braces are ceramic, or “clear,” braces. Ceramic braces work the same way that metal braces do, but they are made of tooth-colored materials that blend in with your teeth. This results in a more discreet treatment for those who have cosmetic concerns. One thing to remember is that ceramic braces do require more attention to oral hygiene as they can become stained and may break more easily than metal braces.

Invisalign®

Invisalign is a type of clear aligner. Clear aligners use a series of custom-made, plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. Clear aligners can be used to treat all the same problems as braces, but provide you with an incredibly discreet treatment and are generally more comfortable. The aligners are nearly invisible, are custom-made to fit your mouth and are removable. This means that you can take them out to eat, drink, brush and floss without difficulty. We recommend that you wear your aligners as often as possible in order to ensure that your treatment progresses as planned.

Six Month Smiles®

Six Month Smiles gives the great results of braces but with cosmetic and time benefits. Six Month Smiles also uses Lucid-Lok® clear brackets and Chameleon™ tooth-colored wires, giving you the option for a treatment that is more discreet as well as fast and effective.

Taking Care of Your Braces

Hygiene

Brushing and flossing are the most important things you can do to ensure your orthodontic treatment goes as planned. Take your time to brush teeth well in between wires and brackets to ensure no food is left. Floss teeth daily using super-floss or a floss threader to get in between wires. You may want to try a water flosser as well.

Eating

Most foods can be eaten as normally; however, avoid foods that are extremely hard, chewy or sticky, such as apples, bagels, chewing gum and popcorn.
