Do you know what to do in a dental emergency?

Bitten lip or tongue: Clean with hydrogen peroxide or saline solution and put pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding. You can also take ibuprofen or Tylenol before coming into the office to be evaluated. In severe cases, stitches may be necessary.

Broken, chipped or fractured tooth: Bring in the broken piece for reattachment. Most successful reattachments occur within one hour of the break, so it’s important to get to our office as soon as possible. If the reattachment is not successful, we can use cosmetic dentistry to fix the tooth with a crown or bonding.

Toothache: Take over-the-counter pain medicine (as directed) and call the office as soon as possible. Take note of any swelling, as this can indicate infection.

Knocked-out tooth: Put the tooth in salt water or milk and come straight to the office, since time is of the essence when dealing with a knocked-out tooth. You should be seen within an hour of the tooth being knocked out. Call when you’re on the way so we can be ready to assist you as soon as you arrive.

Broken jaw: Call our office and we will direct you to our in-house oral surgeon or potentially the nearest ER.
