Dental Exams & Cleanings in Alpharetta, Georgia

Preventing Problems Before They Start

Smiling patient with dental assistantYour oral health and overall health are very closely connected. Our dentists and team are committed to helping you maintain excellent oral health and promote your overall health and wellbeing. We encourage all of our patients to practice good oral hygiene at home and to visit our office regularly for preventive care. The American Dental Association recommends that you visit the dentist every six months for a cleaning and exam in order to ensure that your teeth and mouth remain healthy.

Routine dental exams and cleanings have many benefits, including:

  • Preventing dental problems from developing, including tooth decay, periodontal disease and bad breath
  • Reducing the overall amount of time that you spend in the dental office
  • Preventing the need for expensive and time-consuming dental procedures
  • Helping to keep your smile beautiful
  • Monitoring your oral health so that problems can be diagnosed and treated before they can cause extensive damage

The Cleaning

Our dentists will begin by thoroughly cleaning your mouth. One of our caring hygienists will check the surface of your teeth for cavities and to determine the health and quality of any existing fillings. A periodontal exam will also be performed to make sure that your gums are healthy. Our hygienist will then carefully clean your teeth to remove plaque and tartar (also known as calculus) from your teeth. Your teeth will also be flossed and polished. Afterward, our hygienist will review your overall oral health will you, and may make recommendations on ways you can improve your at-home care routine.

The Exam

After your cleaning, our dentists will thoroughly examine your entire mouth for signs of tooth decay, periodontal disease, or other dental problems. We will take any needed X-rays to more closely examine your supporting oral structure, and will also screen for oral cancer.
